Production Support / Production Roaster

The Salt Spring Coffee team is growing! And we are looking for a hard-working, detail oriented, coffee passionate individual to join our Production & Roasting departments as a Production Roaster/ Production Support. This is a perfect position for a coffee industry professional that wants to move out of the cafe environment and take their coffee career to the next level

Some of the duties include but are not limited to:

Production & Packaging

  • Perform line pre-operation and post-operation checklists and ensure their documentation
  • Fill coffee bags; pack coffee bags in boxes or trays
  • Operate portion pack machine
  • Wrap skids as required
  • Clean, sweep and wipe down
  • Record daily numbers, and maintain product quality and output form daily
  • Ensure inventory of operation supplies: boxes, trays, shipper displays, tape, wrap, fresh seal, labels and date stickers

Roasting

  • Participate in coffee education as required
  • Follow all roasting practices determined by the CQM in consultation with the roasting team: daily tasting of all roasts, roast profiling data entry, daily communications log entries, daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance done and recorded.
  • Ensure packaging lines are given coffee in order of priority
  • Follow maintenance guidelines for roasting machines as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Manual
  • Perform maintenance on roasting machines overseen by CQM
  • Record amounts, types and blends of coffee being roasted
  • Follow opening and closing checklists
  • Ensure coffee is roasted in an order that improves efficiency

  • Desire to learn and develop coffee skills
  • Solid communication/ people skills
  • Good mechanical aptitude/ skills
  • Ability to fill and pack coffee bags
  • Responsible, independent, hard-working
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment
  • Be physically fit; able to lift 23 kilograms (50 lbs)
  • Roasting, barista, cupping and forklift experience is an asset but not required

We are looking for coffee lovers who are keen, quick available and like a team environment. You don't need to have any experience just a positive attitude, a love for the enviornment and a great work ethic! Salt Spring is happy to train new employees who have a love for a coffee and smiling customers. Join our ever growing team of baristas and cashiers at the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal. We are transit accessible and flexible for those who don't have their own vehicle.
