Sumatra
With our Sumatra, the name says it all. This single-origin coffee uses organic beans exclusively from the Indonesian island of Sumatra. This particular batch comes from our friends and partners at the Koperasi Baitul Qiradh Baburrayyan (KBQB), a coffee-producing cooperative established in the Island’s Aceh province in 1995.
Sumatra has a strong full body and smoky-earthy-syrupy flavours. We travel to Indonesia to stay connected to the source of organic beans. Sumatra continues to be one of our founders favourite coffees. It holds a special place in our hearts.
French Roast
Our French Roast is a classic through and through—it takes well to cream and sugar. This darkest coffee in our classic line-up gives you a deep, bold and roasty flavour.
Village Trade
At Salt Spring Coffee, we’re always pushing ourselves to find innovative ways to support coffee farmers and bolster their communities. In 1998, we launched this classic coffee to help draw attention to the fledgling fair trade movement.
Metta Espresso
For our trademark Metta Espresso blend, we roast the Latin American beans medium to provide the sweetness and chocolatey notes. We add in Byron’s Arabica when it’s available seasonally to add some brightness and the Sumatra component gives it the rich, earthy body and depth to balance out the blend. Our Metta Espresso stands on its own, stands up to steamed milk and stands out in a crowd.
Blue Heron
Our Blue Heron is a dynamic coffee that’s both sweet and tangy, yet balanced. The taste profile of this blend changes dramatically depending on the brew method, so it’s an excellent candidate for experimentation. The good news is you’ll end up with a tasty cup no matter how you brew. But if forced to pick favourites, we’ll choose the intense, snappy flavour of an Aeropress every time.
Canopy Bird
This classic medium dark roast coffee is named for the canopy birds that travel from North America to the tropics every year to nest in the forest canopy above shade-grown coffee. These birds help keep the insect population under control, while the leaves from their canopy home act as a natural fertilizer for the soil. Everyone wins!
Our Canopy Bird features beans from Latin America and Ethiopia to create a rich, smooth coffee that is juicy and vibrant. Good to drink—and good for the birds. Find out more at canopybird.com.
Peru
Our Peru is our lightest roast, making it a natural starting point to begin exploring our Classic coffee line-up. If you’re accustomed to bold, dark coffees like our Sumatra or French Roast, this light-bodied brew will take your taste buds to new places.
Just like the name says, these organic and fairtrade coffee beans come exclusively from Peru. Achieving the perfect medium-roast coffee is a real balancing act. You want to roast long enough to bring out the best in the beans and highlight the characteristics you want, without veering into dark-roast territory.
The result? Expect a sweet, citrus coffee with floral notes. Equally delicious brewed hot or to make your own cold brew at home.
Swiss Water Decaf
Our Decaf has hints of cocoa nibs and a rich body with a smooth nutty finish. The SWISS WATER Process is chemical-free and decaffeinated close to our Roastery which makes for optimal freshness.
A caffeine-free coffee that delivers a rich full taste.
