Getting real about corporate social responsibility
In honour of our Best for the World Challenge, we’re taking a closer look at all the ways that Salt Spring Coffee strives to make a difference when it comes to sustainability. On tap this week? Our Corporate Social Responsibility Report.
What is corporate social responsibility?
Corporate social responsibility, or CSR for short, is when a company takes steps to understand and take responsibility for its effects on environmental and social well-being. For Salt Spring Coffee, that means taking a closer look at the environmental impacts of our coffee, from bean to cup, and the relationships we have with our coffee growers, suppliers, partners and you.
Our approach to CSR can be summed up in four key principles:
- Take care. Choose the best for our communities and the environment.
- Think big. Consider the big-picture impacts of all of our decisions.
- Reach high. Set new goals and continually raise the bar.
- Be bold. Lead the way and inspire others to join us.
Why create a CSR report?
In 2015, we released our first annual CSR Report online as a way to track and share our journey. Each spring, we update the website with figures from the previous year to document our progress on key metrics over time. Being open and transparent about our successes and our challenges helps keep us accountable—to you, the planet and ourselves.
What can you do?
Actions big and small can make a difference for the planet and the people around you. If you haven’t yet joined Salt Spring Coffee’s Best for the World Challenge, there’s still time. Say no to disposable cups for 21 days for a chance to win a year’s supply of Salt Spring Coffee and six handcrafted mugs.
