Best for the World Challenge Wrap Up
In 2016, Salt Spring Coffee received B Corp’s Best for the Environment Award for the effectiveness of our sustainability programs and our commitment to the environment. We divert 95% of our waste out of the landfill—we do this through composting, recycling and donations. This is well above the industry standard for manufacturing and it’s an achievement we’re both proud of and always looking to improve.
We asked you to join us in our sustainability mission by taking part in our Best for the World Challenge and saying no to disposable coffee cups for 21 days. It turns out, there are a lot of you who are just as passionate as we are about zero waste.

According to Zero Waste Canada, an estimated 14 billion cups of coffee are consumed in Canada every year—and 35% of that coffee is taken to go. In 2010, the most recent year for which figures are available, Canadians used an estimated 1.5 billion disposable coffee cups—equivalent to more than half a million trees.
Together, over the past four months, we have reduced landfill waste and we’ve proven that small changes in our daily lives can make a world of difference. Whether you are just getting started with a sustainable lifestyle or are further transforming your life, we hope that you continue on this path with us. Thank you to all who participated!
Congratulations to our grand prize winner Johanna!
