Local Foodies Unite at Feast of Fields
This past Sunday, the Salt Spring Coffee team joined chefs, farmers, fishers, ranchers, food artisans, vintners, brewers and distillers from across the province at Feast of Fields, the annual harvest festival that celebrates the local food economy. This year was a particularly special festival as it marks the 20th anniversary of Farm Folk City Folk, the non-profit society that the festival supports.
The hallmark of this great festival is the use of everyday local ingredients in new and innovative culinary creations. From wood-fired s’mores to a “Road Trip Bars”, a minty chocolate take on a traditional granola bar, the festival was truly one of gastronomic exploration. Salt Spring Coffee was there too, with a special batch of cold brewed Africa blend, with a twist: local biodynamic blueberries.
The festival welcomes back familiar faces each year, while also providing a venue for fantastic up-and-comers in the foodie world.
More about Farm Folk City Folk: Feast of Fields is a fundraising event for Farm Folk City Folk, a non-profit society in support of a local, sustainable food system. Their projects support farmers and engage their communities in the celebration of local food. Another festival is happening in Vancouver Island on September 22, and tickets are still available for purchase.
