What happens to our burlap sacks?

What happens to our burlap sacks?

When green coffee beans arrive at our warehouse, they come in the classic coffee “burlap” sacks you might recognize — but their journey doesn’t end there. Over time, we accumulate a ton of these sacks, along with coffee chaff, a by-product of the roasting process. As part of our waste diversion program, we give these sacks and the chaff to local farmers and hobbyists for free, so they can put them to use on the farm or for arts and crafts.

There are plenty of ways to give burlap sacks a second life: as grow bags for your vegetable garden, for pest and weed control, as liners for plant baskets — or, like Urban Bounty in Richmond, BC (shown in the photo below), as a weed barrier in their garden.

If you’d like to pick up some burlap bags or coffee chaff, feel free to come by our warehouse at 3551 Viking Wy #105 in Richmond (shipping/receiving entrance in the back of the building) during our opening times between 8:30am and 3pm.
