Our West Coast Blend is Moving Toward Recyclable Packaging

Our West Coast Blend is Moving Toward Recyclable Packaging

If you’re a fan of our West Coast blend from Costco, you may have noticed that the packaging recently got an upgrade. We’re moving away from the traditional multilayer plastic bag to a recyclable paper-based container, which will help us to divert thousands of pounds of plastic packaging away from the landfill. Below we go through why we’ve made this transition and why this is better for the environment.

Why did we change our packaging?

We have always been mindful of the waste that traditional coffee packaging creates, and until recently, it’s been necessary to package your favourite coffee in high barrier, multilayer plastic bags to maintain its quality and freshness. We are so happy to be transitioning our West Coast over to the innovative

AromaPak™ containers that have been engineered featuring Boardio® technology to keep your coffee fresher for longer, while also being recyclable which will greatly reduce the amount of traditional coffee bags that end up in the landfill.

What makes this new packaging better?

For starters, the packaging is made with a minimum of 80% renewable paper-fibre materials certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Additionally, the AromaPak container is PFAS-free, and is also free from BHA and BHT. Rest assured, your coffee in the AromaPak™ container is being stored without the usage of any harmful chemicals

And finally, they are designated as “widely recyclable” by How2Recycle. This means the packaging material is acceptable in a minimum of 60% of curbside or drop-off recycling programs in Canadian and American communities. It is important to note that the freshness seal is the only part of the container that is not recyclable, but once it has been removed, the rest is perfectly ready for the recycling bin.

We understand that there is still a lot of work to be done in our goal to become zero waste, but we are incredibly excited to be taking this step toward lowering the amount of waste destined for the landfill.

Please note that if you are ordering the West Coast from our website, they will still be packaged in the plastic packaging until we are able to transition fully to the AromaPak recyclable packaging.
