Salt Spring Coffee Turns 29!
This year marks 29 years since Salt Spring Coffee first opened its doors on Salt Spring Island. Nearly three decades later, what started as a small roastery has grown into a movement — one rooted in connection, sustainability, and a deep love for coffee.
We’ve learned a lot over the years, but one thing remains constant: our commitment to doing better — for the planet, our partners, and our coffee-loving community. From the beginning, we’ve focused on sourcing coffee in ways that regenerate the earth and help the people who grow it. And in 2024, that mission reached new heights.
This past year, we were honoured to receive two awards: the Rise Award for Social Impact and Organic Champion of the Year. We also proudly launched our Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC®) coffee in the U.S. for the first time — a huge milestone in our journey to build a more regenerative coffee future.
As climate change continues to impact coffee-growing regions around the world, spreading the message of regenerative organic agriculture has never been more important. That’s why our co-founder and president, Mickey McLeod, spent time on podcasts and livestreams, sharing the story of ROC® and its potential to heal the land and strengthen communities. To support that conversation, we also created a dedicated page of ROC® resources on our website — because the more we know, the more we can do, together.
To everyone who’s brewed a cup, shared a story, or stood with us in our mission — thank you. You are part of this journey, and we’re so grateful. Here’s to the next 29 years of doing better, together.
