Byron's Maracaturra - A Visionary Varietal
Back by popular demand, we are launching a limited edition coffee with Byron's Maracaturra again this year!
A unique varietal created by Byron, the Maracaturra is a hybrid of the Marigojipe and Caturra. You will notice the larger coffee bean size of this medium roast coffee.
Located in Nicaragua, Byron Corrales and his family have been producing high quality organic coffee since 1981. In the mountains of Jinotega, Byron's coffee farm is strategically situated in the midst of a luscious natural reserve El Arenal.
Utilizing biodynamic agricultural methods for over 25 years, Byron believes everything on his farm has a purpose and role in coffee production - from the plants that are grown to feed the cows on his farm, to the bees and other insects that help pollinate the coffee trees.
Having visited Byron's farm Fincas Los Pinos on multiple coffee origin trips, our coffee quality manager Jessie reflects on what makes Byron's coffee so special:
Byron is truly a philosopher and visionary when it comes to sustainable organic coffee farming. He utilizes biodynamic agriculture practises which result in a variety of delicious coffees while maintaining the harmonious balance and interconnectivity of the mountain and it's ecosystem.
He also uses the phase of the moon to determine the timing of coffee cherry harvesting so as to optimize the natural flow of nutrients through the coffee plant to the cherries. The water used to irrigate the farm is sourced straight from the mountain; organically treated, filtered and ready for consumption. The grass and hay grown on the land feeds his cattle, who in turn contribute to the fertilizer and bioculture of the farm.
We are excited and proud to share Byron's Maracaturra with you this year. It is available for a limited time only. Order yours today!
