Vancouver Farmers Markets

Vancouver Farmers Markets (VFM), a non-profit society that operates year-round in neighbourhoods throughout the city, is celebrating its 20th anniversary of connecting residents and consumers with fresh produce and locally sourced products. The society runs nine weekly markets, including two winter markets at Nat Bailey Stadium and Hastings Park, and has recently added fresh fish, craft beers and B.C. wines to market mainstays such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods.

Farmers markets support small farming operations, provide people with nourishing, fresh food, and create a community who know the value of local connections, all reasons Salt Spring Coffee is proud to be a longtime supporter of the VFM project. Last year, as part of our 1% for the Planet program, we were gold-level sponsors of RIPE 2014, the society’s signature fundraiser that pairs farm-to-table chefs and restaurants with local farmers and producers for a great-tasting night of B.C. food and fine spirits.

This summer, Salt Spring Coffee is sponsoring the Trout Lake market — the perfect venue to beat the heat and sample our new Cold Brew coffee on the last Saturday of each month — and offering great prizes as part of our first Edible Scavenger Hunt. Many of the fun items can be found at your local farmers market, and you can post your favourite market moments online using the hashtag #fairtofarmer to win tickets to RIPE 2015 and other great events.
