Richmond Sharing Farm
The Sharing Farm in Richmond, British Columbia, is all about connecting people with farms and the good stuff they grow. Over the past 10 years, the organization has produced much-needed fruits and vegetables for vulnerable communities, providing educational and therapeutic opportunities for budding urban farmers along the way.
Salt Spring Coffee, which is built on a model of collaborating with the farmers growing our coffee, is thrilled to support the Sharing Farm’s great work through our 1% Percent for the Planet program.
Our donations to the Sharing Farm have allowed them to purchase crucial equipment to increase the efficiency and output of their small-scale farm. A walk-behind tractor replaced one that had been shared between several operations. It immediately boosted production and the amount of healthy food available for food banks in the area. A two-door produce cooler allowed the farm to get that food onto plates faster and in better condition.
In addition to equipment, Salt Spring Coffee staff members have regularly volunteered at the Sharing Farm, getting their hands dirty and sharing expertise with members of this unique community.
