A Message from Mickey McLeod, President & CEO

Mickey McLeodMickey McLeodDear Friends, I want to share some important developments with you.

Salt Spring Coffee Company has reached a pivotal moment in its 15-year history. We’re planning to consolidate our roasting operations under one roof in the City of Vancouver later this year. This wasn’t an easy decision and came after considerable effort to find a suitable space we could call “home” for a long time to come.

We feel we’re only scratching the surface of what we can become and the next several years are going to be very exciting. We’ve got more momentum than we’ve ever had. We’re producing outstanding coffee, doing great things on the sustainability front, supporting our farmers, bringing in more customers and delivering our message to the public in new and imaginative ways. It’s a great position for a company to be in, but it’s also our duty to address the momentum in the most responsible way we can.

So, we’re working on moving all of our operations to Vancouver by late summer 2010. We’ll have our roasting facilities, head office, a tasting lab, a new café and other wonderful parts of our business all in the same place. It’s a good business move for us, plus it’s in line with our social and environmental values.

We’ve come a long way since 1996, growing from a small, independent coffee roasting company to now one of Canada’s largest and most respected artisan roasters of direct trade coffee. It’s a super exciting time for us. Yet, some things won’t change, like our name, our cafés and our company’s values: recognizing people, the planet and profitability in the creation of exceptional coffee.

So watch this space and our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on this exciting new journey. And get ready for some delicious new coffees that we’re working on to celebrate this new phase in our company’s life.
