Our Coffee Subscription Pick: September 16 - 30

Ethiopia, Amaro Gayo.

The response to this season’s Ethiopia, Amaro Gayo has been outstanding – so much so – that we’ve decided to share it exclusively with our coffee subscription subscribers a final time.

Roast. GRIND. Brew.

One of the most important yet overlooked aspect of creating an excellent cup of coffee or shot of espresso is grind. In fact, grind is so critically important that when training a Barista it is one of the very first, and lengthiest subjects that we cover.

The grade of grind applied and/or the length of time a coffee sits pre-ground can affect the quality of cup you prepare. So to that end, we’re making a shift. To highlight to importance of grind, we'll be offering two high performance burr grinders on shop.saltspringcoffee.com shortly.

We counsel fans of coffee, regardless of their preferred brewing method (French Press, Chemex, Hario Dripper or espresso machine) to grind coffee daily directly before its brewed. Coffee that’s finely ground or coarsely ground with a burr grinder will reveal flavour nuances as well as levels of acidity and body that pre-ground coffee simply cannot match.

So often a coffee’s delight is in the fine (punn intended) details.

Enjoy your cup,

Banks Thomas, Director of Coffee
