First blended in the late 1990s, Mundo Unido (translation: World United) is a marker of our decade-long commitment to the environment and the labour rights of our partner farmers at origin.
Mundo Unido also shares something in common with last week’s subscription pick Blue Heron – the blends are made of the same three coffees from Nicaragua, Peru and Sumatra.
What really sets Mundo Unido and Blue Heron apart is roast and blend proportion.
A dark roast coffee, Mundo Unido enjoys key flavours of a bittersweet dark chocolate, together with smoky earthy undertones. To add, its body is thick and its aftertaste is long, lingering for just the right amount of time. In contrast, Blue Heron’s roast profile is lighter, giving it a spicy, snappier taste with a short, sweet finish.
This week I’ve intentionally picked Mundo Unido to highlight the noticeable difference roast and blend proportion can make to a coffee’s flavour, acidity and body.
