Byron's Maracaturra.It's a special time of year. A new crop of coffee from one of our most popular farmers, Byron Corrales Martines (of the Matagalpa region of Nicaragua) has just arrived and is cupping better than ever. We’ve offered Byron’s Maracaturra as one of our Culinary Single Origin coffees for three years now and I’ve got to say, this season’s harvest is tops.
What makes this washed (versus natural process) coffee a stand out is the fact that “Maracaturra” is a rare hybrid of Maragogype and Caturra coffee varietals formed at the hands, and on the farm of Byron Corrales.
Byron Corrales is not your ordinary coffee farmer. In addition to his creative (and delicious) hybridizations he also goes beyond organic agriculture using biodynamic practices - planting, pruning, fertilizing and sometimes even picking his coffee crops in harmony with lunar cycles and the ebb and flow of the seasons.
