Sumatra, Aceh Gayo.Now that I’m here I feel that there’s no better time to revisit our Sumatra, Aceh Gayo. I cupped our latest roast of Sumatra, Aceh Gayo with Mathew Hill, our in-house roaster and Mickey McLeod, our founder and CEO, the day before I left for Indonesia and we all agreed - it’s outstanding.
One of the hardest parts of traveling to Sumatra is simply the travel itself. A 3:10am departure from Vancouver to Hong Kong is how it all starts (a 13-hour flight over 15 time zones); next, a four-hour flight to Kuala Lumpur and finally another short one-hour flight to my destination: Medan, Sumatra.
As an artisan roaster, great effort goes into roasting our green coffees daily – we don’t roast en masse. Every day we roast, taste the coffees, then adjust, then taste, then adjust.
