It’s true we do things a little differently out here on Salt Spring Island. We’ve got gumboot dancers, zucchini races, and zero traffic lights. It’s a place where island old-timers mingle with new urban refugees, and where Birkenstocks far outnumber penny loafers. It’s also where we roast really great coffee – as original as the folks who live here.
From a humble start with one small roasting café, we’ve grown up to become one of Canada’s largest and most respected micro-roasters of certified organic, fair-trade, shade-grown, and carbon-neutral coffees. We’ve worked hard to be recognized not only for uncompromising freshness and quality, but also for walking the walk when it comes to caring for people and the planet.
And we’re always striving to raise the bar, thanks in large part to customers who expect only the best from us.
The truth is, we’re a little bit obsessed. You might not want to get us
started about coffee at dinner parties. But at least you can’t say we
don’t love what we do.
Salt Spring Coffee has partnered with a new organization called Beat Global Heat that inspires people to become actively involved in solutions to climate change through fun events. Beat Global Heat's first initiative is the Backyard Festival, taking place on Saturday, July 26th.
We are excited to be one of the sponsors of the Camp Moomba Yogathon on
July 12th. Two thousand people are expected to participate to raise
funds for children impacted by HIV/AIDs and the yoga class will be lead
by one of Canada’s best-loved yoga teachers, Eoin Finn.
For Immediate Release: The Green Fee -- The next wave of Carbon Cool
Consumers asked to make ‘cooler’ choices...
Vancouver, BC – May 2008 – Salt Spring Coffee Company, BC’s original fair trade and organic coffee company, continues to lead the way with its sustainability practices. Beginning May 20th Salt Spring Coffee is challenging coffee drinkers to look deeper into how they use disposable cups. The company will implement a 5-cent green fee on throw-away coffee cups with money generated going towards local sustainability initiatives in the community. The goal: get people to bring re-usable mugs, the message: reduce waste and become carbon cool.
