The West Coast's Organic and Fair Trade Coffee Since '96
EPIC 2009 - A Huge Success
epic.jpg

For the past three years Salt Spring Coffee has been a key sponsor at the EPIC Sustainability Expo. This year proved to be the perfect opportunity to introduce our new Brand Identity, a first in line of Micro-Lot coffees from our Coffee's of Distinction Program and some pretty cool sustainability initiatives.

For starters, we launched the first of a series of new Micro-Lot coffees beginning with Finca Nevado Sarasara, produced by one of our award winning farmers Jesus Viña who is from the Pangoa Co-op in Peru. This coffee's delicious chocolate and walnut flavours, savory body and smooth lingering finish won the hearts of attendees.  Sold only at the show and now available exclusively through our cafés, we will be offering new Micro-Lot coffees on a fairly regular basis so keep your eyes open for these beauties. To learn more about new coffees, how you can purchase them and other worthy coffee news, join us on our Twitter and/or Facebook accounts for updates (see addresses below).

Something new this year, no paper cups, no sugar, no milk - it was all about the coffee and reduction of our footprint at the show. Our re-usable ceramic cups were a big hit. Visitors to the booth were very impressed having coffee from a real ceramic tasting cup and although we lost a few along the way, we ended up spending less than we might have on paper cups.  The whole experience resulted in no paper cups to the landfill and lots of ceramic cups for our next event - A real win-win for us and the planet.

Other activities at the booth included a bicycle with an electrical generator that was designed to power a coffee grinder (a work in process, so look for it at other upcoming events this year), along with a public vote on how we should spend over $8500 we collected from our 5 cent 'Green Fee' charged on all coffee sold in paper cups over the past year at our cafés. Another win-win.

We all had a lot of fun sharing great coffee and ideas with all the attendees who dropped by the booth EPIC - Looking forward to seeing you all in 2010!

Be sure to join us on the Net or drop by and visit us at some of the upcoming events we're attending this year - We'd love to chat:
